Corner Shop

Lyrics

Business is bad on the corner now
He’d make a new start but he can’t see how
The supermarket came to town
He watched the sales go down and down
You never bought much but a friendly face
Such a happy place …

Corner shop, now those days are past
Corner shop, it just couldn’t last

The customers cry as they close the door
They’ll pay their respects but they won’t pay more
They’re off to see a brand new place
With plastic trays and too much space
Forgetting that no-one can count the cost
When the cause is lost …

Corner shop, now those days are past
Corner shop, it just couldn’t last

Ah, don’t be so sentimental
He’ll find other things to do – wouldn’t you?

He’s counting the days till the shutters drop
There’s dust over everything in the shop
It’s getting late to start again
Perhaps he’ll wait until the end
‘Cos nobody cares if you did your best
You can take a rest …

Corner shop, now those days are past
Corner shop, it just couldn’t last.
